Hi Rajiv,
Could you explain to us how you detect a virus in your computer and how to get rid of it! I had a scare Wednesday night with the message below:
Security Tool Notification,
Spy ware IE Monster process is found.
This virus is trying to send your password from internet browser (Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox and Outlook and others) from the third party.
Click here to protect you data with Security Tool.

Security Tool Notification,
Harmful software has been detected at your PC. Click here to deactivate it.

It claimed it had detected so many hundred Trojans and Worms. I ran a Comprehensive Scan with my Norton 360 and it found only one item which it fixed straightaway.

In my Startup Manager I have 35 programs. Which of these programs can I turnoff. How delayed items do works?

Questions for Con Hill Pals

I have been looking at the scrawled notes the I have made in class and there are a few gaps in the information I have tried to record. I am hoping that some of my Con Hill Computer experts may help me sort them out.

I don't seem to have written down what Winzip does. Is it a good thing to use? I must not have been paying attention to this one.

How does U Tube work. I think that you can send a video or movie you have made to U Tube so others can see it but is it then possible for anyone to look at it too. Is this right? I guess having the video on U Tube saves space on your computer too. Is this a better idea than buying space on Google Web Albums.

I have looked at facebook and do not like it much. Seems to be so busy and so many people sending strange messages. Does anyone else in our computer club use it and do you like it? Can anyone look at the things you put there?

I have received some things where the picture or image is not shown. Some have a 'show image' place to click on and they then appear but some don't. (Or I can't find it). How do you show the images then?

I have downloaded i Tunes and Quick Time Player seemed to come with it. I have yet to get an
i Pod or whatever to work out all of this. No idea what WMA files or AAC version is. Does anyone use a i Pod and down load their music. I have no idea?? Is Livewire used for music downloads? I have just written the name down but not sure why. I can't seem to get any free music there.

Bev tells me she has written down Limewire. That seems to be another thing I know nothing about.

My last problem is that I can't open pictures on my moble phone. Phone media can't send or receive. Do I need to contact Optus or is there something on the phone that needs fixing?

See you all Saturday.

Learning about blogs

I am so glad that Rajiv has taught us what a blog is and how to post comments.
My granddaughter is in kindergarten and her class has a blog where the children are encouraged to place comments and thoughts about questions her teacher posts. One question asks whether they think it is a good idea for each class to have a pet (they have a gold fish called sparkle). Another is whether they think that each class should have a blog and another about whether animals should be kept in a zoo. The comments that some post are great and family and friends are encouraged to send some too. The teacher monitors them before they are published. I asked her if I should post one too and she said yes please so I feel happy that I was able to find the site and add a comment too. Thankyou Rajiv. I would feel too unsure of what I was doing if it wasn't for you teaching us about blogs.

Our Blog seems to be very quiet

Hi everyone. I am finally back from overseas holidays, interstate grandchildren visits and another week away in Mudgee. I feeling like I need a rest.
Just thought I might catch up on some gossip on our blog but can't seem to find any new posts.
Did miss some computer classes so I will catch up on Saturday.
Am going to spend more time learning things about this new computer of mine and hopefully will be more adventurous with downloading music etc.
My photos are a complete mess and will take me years to sort but I am not going to be scared of experimenting and making a complete mess before I get to the finished product.
I am finding this retirement thing so busy that my head is spinning. How did I ever find the time to go to work.
See you all on Saturday.

Hi computer pals. I am very excited about my computer class. Just went to Dick Smith and bought some great little speakers. I can now hear my grandson giggle as he takes his first steps. Just love watching that video and now I can hear it as well

Thanks Rajiv for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I hope Bev will take lots of notes when I am away so I can keep up.
Keep enjoying your computers!

HI Rajiv,
What happens when in Administrator Properties you disable the main administrator? Does that means that the main one, myself and the guest are not showing on your desk top when singing in and can I still sign in when I start the computer? Can I bring it back when I un click "Account is disabled" and click "Password never Expire"?
